A month in Brisbane

Love being here! We are staying in Hawthorne, a short walk to the ferry! We always find time to do a trip all the way up the river, passing the yachts tied to the poles next to the Botanic Gardens. During our years away on the boat we spent quite some time anchored here. A great place to explore the city. Our dog loved the gardens too!

I did a little photography course using the iPhone. P was out tutor and model! Had fun seeing South Bank from a different angle. My photographs may be a little better in future.

Love this walkway.

This hen appreciated it too

Maritime museum from the uni footbridge.

Could not resist taking this pic. Front door of this cottage has been painted since our last visit, love it!

My bag has been essential. Lots of bits of fabric hide in here!

Exploring quilting shops is an essential practice, and you need a BIG BAG!

Grand visiting my quilts too! A cool evening on the deck! The rose quilt on the left is the first quilt I made. Made by hand, ruler, pencil and scissors. Cut little 2" squares. I did not have a pattern, but worked it out from a picture of a star block. The cream secondary pattern was a great surprise! This quilt was put together whilst we sailed, so has special memories.

The quilt on the right was also made on the boat. A bright quilt was my brief! This is the back of the quilt.

Made QAYG, appropriate as the pattern was made up as I went too. The blocks are 8"x8" and quilted in fours. I like the corner detail! It is a very large QS that almost touches the floor all round. Enjoyed making it! I went from 'country' colours to brights! The old 40+ Elna with plate over the feed dogs did a good job teaching me FMQ. Each block has a different filler.

Back is made using batik fabrics.

Another Brisbane delight is the morning birdsong. The butcher bird's song has kept me company through this trip down memory lane!
