New challenges!

Kaffe Fassett quilt sandwich ready for quilting. What to do? Think maybe some ruler work! I think this may be the biggest quilt I've ever made! 90" x 90". It's gonna be fun. Blocks are 10" x 10".

Left overs added to the back. I could not throw the bits out! They were added to the strawberries!

Angelica is looking forward to being very busy in the near future!

I must add a couple of POTC blocks. Now have 11 blocks. Only another 45 to go!

Have a great and safe Christmas!

Patchwork of the Crosses

A few more blocks of POTC

REALLY LOVE THIS!

I have also completed this quilt. Seems to have taken ages, but have quilted two others that were colaberative group quilts.

Spare blocks are part of the backing.
Angelica is learning how to quilt! We have so much to learn. A few tension problems, but now much improved. She is a great teenager with great skills.
Have a great Xmas.

Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses.

Angelica and Nina have been zooming away at a great pace. Nina has been ditch stitching two quilts while Angelica is into the FMQ on both quilts. I have been on a big steep learning curve.

Today Nina and I ditch stitched a third quilt. Now it's time for Angelica on her third quilt.

But.........I have discovered more joy! Lucy Boston and FB's Fussy Cutters Club.

What's not to love? My little kit sits on the bedside table at night waiting...... Early Morning cup of tea, and I'm happily stitching between sips. Bliss!

Welcome Angelica!

Nina has a new friend in the sewing room. Angelica, my beautiful teenager has moved in. And, as with most teenagers, Angelica needs lots of space for all her stuff. Nina has moved from under the large window to a smaller window. Quite settled now I believe. The large sofa bed has been taken apart, pulled and shoved down the stairs, and off with the metal collecting man to Simms or the tip!! Yay!!!

Angelica has the big window for a big girl.

The cutting table is in this corner. Moving the couch has given me much better access to the cutting table and design wall.

Between the cutting table and Angelica I have a little hall table tucked in. Useful when quilting, and is also useful for the computer.

The chairs, in perfect condition come from our local second hand shop for $35 each! ( no cash left after getting a teenager). Looks a bit strange in the pic, the chairs are in front of a three door, mirrored built in cupboard. Hanging space in the cupboard now has shelving installed.

Threads and IKEA wall. Chino and Toti are quite happy with the new arrangements! CD drawers are great for fat quarters too.

A bit of practice! I'll improve!!

Feeling very happy with my lot! In fact I'm delighted!!!!

I now have 60 x 10" blocks. Only 21 to go!! Photo doesn't show the intensity of the colours. Such fun!
Back to work........

Stitching Tuesday.

Homework today for our Mallee Tree foundation piecing block. Thanks Carolyn for the template. I may make a few more to incorporate into a quilt!

Another session of sewing this afternoon. Sashing added to this quilt. I'm not usually a sashing person, but this quilt seemed to be calling for it. The blocks are put together 'log cabin' style! I do like the wonky look. The black square is in the centre of each block.

Now a search of the stash is called for. May just find an appropriate backing fabric. Otherwise I'll be back to my LQS Mallee Tree.

On the design wall

A few orphans reside here. They tend to move around the wall as other residents come and go.

Great to be back home after a very busy month in sunny Brisbane. I took lots of hand sewing, stitcheries and hexies! But I did miss my 'Nina!

I've had these Regency by Yvonne Porcella fabrics for a few years and they were rediscovered during my recent ' tidy and re-organise' sessions in the sewing room. Really needed to settle back Into a groove with a quick and easy quilt! Not sure about the yellow but will introduce a bit more for balance. It may work? Any suggestions? I made first few blocks with yellow centres. Ghastly!! Black centres proved to be a great improvement!

Such fun!

A month in Brisbane

Love being here! We are staying in Hawthorne, a short walk to the ferry! We always find time to do a trip all the way up the river, passing the yachts tied to the poles next to the Botanic Gardens. During our years away on the boat we spent quite some time anchored here. A great place to explore the city. Our dog loved the gardens too!

I did a little photography course using the iPhone. P was out tutor and model! Had fun seeing South Bank from a different angle. My photographs may be a little better in future.

Love this walkway.

This hen appreciated it too

Maritime museum from the uni footbridge.

Could not resist taking this pic. Front door of this cottage has been painted since our last visit, love it!

My bag has been essential. Lots of bits of fabric hide in here!

Exploring quilting shops is an essential practice, and you need a BIG BAG!

Grand visiting my quilts too! A cool evening on the deck! The rose quilt on the left is the first quilt I made. Made by hand, ruler, pencil and scissors. Cut little 2" squares. I did not have a pattern, but worked it out from a picture of a star block. The cream secondary pattern was a great surprise! This quilt was put together whilst we sailed, so has special memories.

The quilt on the right was also made on the boat. A bright quilt was my brief! This is the back of the quilt.

Made QAYG, appropriate as the pattern was made up as I went too. The blocks are 8"x8" and quilted in fours. I like the corner detail! It is a very large QS that almost touches the floor all round. Enjoyed making it! I went from 'country' colours to brights! The old 40+ Elna with plate over the feed dogs did a good job teaching me FMQ. Each block has a different filler.

Back is made using batik fabrics.

Another Brisbane delight is the morning birdsong. The butcher bird's song has kept me company through this trip down memory lane!

Bright and happy baby quilt

I've had fun making this happy baby quilt for the cutest smily baby!

Used 2 1/2" squares of scrappy fabrics and white strips at 1 1/2" . Measurements include seam allowances.

Most squares have an 'I spy' effect. Beach houses, beetles, bugs, tortoises, kites, frogs etc. all scrappy bits from my 'kids' stash.

Ghetto photo was hurried, as I was on the way to deliver this to little Imogen!

Drawing a compass

For those who expressed interest in the process. I've drawn one this morning with pics taken.

This ruler: Sewing Revolution from Queensland. Phone: 07 5532 7242

Thumb tack in the centre, choose a circle and place your pencil in one of the little holes. Holding the thumb tack in place, draw a circle by using the pencil to rotate the ruler. Drawn a number of different size circles

Using your ruler mark divisions across your circles through the centre.

Now it is just a matter of erasing lines you don't want ie in the centre, and joining others to form triangles!

Now I cut the circles out and. Paper piece each round, outer circle, next circle etc. the circles are attached to each other by appliqués.

when I have some energy to paper piece again, I'll take pics if any one is interested!
